"Instrument of Peace"

I've been a tad busy recently with work, building new banjos and, most time consuming of all, trying to build my own website. Not for NBB but for my prints and paintings. It's proving a bit of a testing proposition and i've spent far to many hours staring in disbelief at my laptop shouting things like 'but i've already done that you ***** **ing **** infuriating geek centred beast from the pit.'
But while this has been happening I feel i've neglected this site and the submissions I've been sent. So to put that right I'll be posting those songs over the next few days. This first one is from PB Guttenburg and a collaborator know only as Lauren.

Instrument Of Peace by Lauren And Peebee Listen on Posterous
PB says:
'My pal Lauren called round to the Crag and we worked on a few songs.
This is the first- "Instrument of Peace" based on the famous prayer by St Francis.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen."

Little Ditty - PB Guttenberg

The beauty of the Internet is that it makes collaboration so much easier and you can be creative with people that you've never met.
PB took the Little Ditty tab and gave it some words and suddenly it sounds like a real old-time dance tune.
Thanks mate.

Newly discovered Archie Bester song 'Twit'

Twit by Archie Bester
Download now or listen on posterous
_Twit_.mp3 (2991 KB)

From: pb guttenburg
Subject: Newly discovered Archie Bester song:"Twit"

Andy the Northern Banjo Boy recently encouraged me to contact Mr Brian Harris (Hon. Chair) of the Bester Appreciation Society (Eastcote) over there in the U.K.to see if there were any unreleased Bester songs.
Imagine my surprise when Mr Harris replied that there is a song from 1954 taken from a privately produced acetate which he has been reluctant to distribute as it could change the accepted history of popular music.
Please take the time to listen -it is a remarkably familiar tune which concerns a plea to  Archie's tightfisted drinking mate "Johnny Fletcher".
It does contain a disparaging remark about Scotsmen but they were different times!

The Union Messenger

PB Guttenburg writes:

Hi N.B.B.

This song was written after reading about an idea on "Tangier Sound"-the site run by Pat & Patrick Costello. The original lyrics are by "young Peter in Ireland" called "the Folk Message". I have rewritten them as a tribute to Woody Guthrie.

A Merry Yuletide to all your readers-oh yeah glad we "found" each other on line this year.

P.S. my Lagerphone is half covered in beer bottle tops- by the end of the hoiday season I intend it to be complete !!

Country Anarchy

PB writes:
Hi N.B.B.
feeling lonesome up here on Carson's Crag -the family have gone down to Hawthorne to visit her sister and
trying to play the "Bump Ditty " was driving me up the cabin wall so I thought I'd try a song by that old timey band the Sex Pistols
give it a listen !or check out www.myspace.com/pbguttenburg

Country Anarchy

keep on pluckin'

PeeBee

Sounds brilliant fella. I also liked 'Don't let the bankers get your dough'. I'm sure Woody would approve of the sentiment. Keep in touch NBB.
