Hi NBB
Just spent the best part of a week deconstructing Ry Cooder's "Chicken Skin Music"-here's a song my  pappy used to sing as he dug a good few trenches-the old Jim Reeves ballad "He'll have to go-(Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone)"

BTW-How's the Posterous going?

Martin Stephenson - In the Dock

What a musician this guy is. He put in a brilliantly funny performance last night and played some blinding finger picking guitar.
It's great to see a musician who clearly was so at ease with his instrument that even while playing some tricky ragtime and Big Bill Broonsy numbers he looked like he still had a few gears left go.

If you get the chance, go see!

Jeff Davis Shortnin Bread

Saw Jeff Davis last year and he's gooood!
Have a listen to his album 'Some Fabulous Yonder' for some crackin banjo and fiddle playing.

There's more vids of Jeff at http://www.youtube.com/user/lewdite

Banjo Kazooie

Is a kazoo an instrument? If so I've broken my new years resolution.

I tend to think it isn't, but it is a good laugh.

Here's a couple of things I've recorded with banjo kazooie and uke kazooie they are a bit rough as I kept laughing while playing as the damn thing sounds so bonkers.

This is a song fragment from the Tim Jumper book Learn to Play Banjo which I'm using to try and improve my playing speed.

Valentines Day is Over - but not for us!

The boys in glorious technicolour!

St Valentines Day Massacre

Got together with the boys - Carl, Mark, Mark and Johnathan and massacred a few standards for Valentines Day. Needles to say the ladies thought it was a very romantic gesture(not)!

Goodnight Irene

Pee Bee Guttenburg writes:

Hi NBB-here's an old pop song and a picture of the man who did it best -Leadbelly.
Got memories of my mother in law (bless her soul) singing this after a few mountain whiskeys.

Steve Martin

Andy, Ive really enjoyed that Steve Martin CD. I think the tunes with singing on are a bit rhubarb. But these two tunes stand out for me. I found these vids on you tube for your blog. Hope you enjoy them!!! CtJ

Three Chord Trick in E

Inspired by Patrick's subway shuffle on the Daily Frail (which I can't do) I've ended up with this, which is a three chord trick in E (E,A,B). I'm finding the B chord a bit tough on the guitar as it the first barre chord that I've tackled.

Jesse James on Guitar

I've got a new phone with a video facility on it which is much easier to use, so I'm going a bit mad on it at the moment.

Old Time Religion

Still working on the bluegrass method here's another version of Old Time Religion.

Excuse the big hand...
