It's here, the Blue Moon F-Hole Ukulele. Turned out the blog had prompted my wife - Mrs Northern Banjo Boy - and the kids to get me one for Father's Day. Thanks guys.
So I've been neglecting the banjo and my music lessons to play with my new toy.
Here's a bit of audio of it in action.

Bruce Springsteen Hard Times
Saw Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park yesterday and it was a great show. I've seen him a couple of times and this one was almost as good as the show he did for Born in the USA. As that was twenty five years ago, he could be forgiven for easing up a bit but it was a full on three hours and the band was as tight as a drum. There were loads of high points, opening with London Calling and a bunch of songs from Born in The USA, but his rendition of Stephen Foster's Hard Times was special. (and I think it was even better than this one)

Banks of the Ohio
Phil contacted me looking for tabs for Banks of the Ohio.
I've been working from Patrick Costello's tab in his Outlaws and Scalawags Songbook.
Send in some audio or video, its good to share!

More Entertainment
After MC Clawhammer made it onto Tangier Sound with his version of Pet Shop Boys 'Rent' and The Jam 'That's Entertainment' here's a couple of other pop classics to get the banjo treatment, suggested by Patrick.

That's Entertainment
MC Clawhammer continues to plunder the british pop cannon for songs to give the banjo treatment. This time round it's the turn of Paul Weller and the Pet Shop Boys.

Strumming the Banjo
After playing the ukulele last week I've been messing around with the banjo and tried strumming instead of frailing.
Worried Man Blues with capo in D
Master Stan Gee said I have to try playing and singing in different keys to see how it works with my voice (which is pretty crappy). As I haven't got the hang of the four fingered chords up the neck yet, I've been using a capo to raise the pitch of the banjo. I've tried this song in A ansd C but it felt most comfortable in D so here it is. I've used Patrick Costello's tab from the Outlaws and Scalawags Song Book.

Blue Moon F-hole tenor Ukulele
I loved playing the Uke Of Cornwall's Tenor Uke when he visited recently, so I think I might invest in one myself. They retail through Hobgoblin Music at £55.00 which is a bargain. I loved the pear shaped body and the slightly chunkier feel of the tenor means you don't feel like a giant playing a kiddies instrument. It has a great sound and felt really easy to play. I think the Uke had restrung the original nylon strings with something a touch more expensive (£5), but even with this included its a nice reasonably priced instrument.

Don't Stop... the Clawhammer
The S Club 7 song as you never imagined it... on banjo. Thanks to MC Clawhammer.
The sound recording is a bit rough, but don't look at the quality feel the width.
Thanks MC?!??!!!?
